How to Cast a Spell

Casting a spell is the act of manifesting a specific intention. When you focus your energy and will, you align yourself with the universe to bring your desires into reality. As you develop your skills in spellcasting, you'll open up a powerful tool for creating the life you desire.

There are many different types of spells, each serving its own unique purpose. To dive deeper into the craft, be sure to check out the What is a Spell? archive at The Aetherium.

A Simple Manifestation Spell

For this simple spell, you will need…

a white candle (for manifesting) -OR- a black candle (for banishing)

an incense stick

a match

a piece of paper

a pen or pencil

1. Center and Ground Your Energy

Begin by centering and grounding yourself.

You can visit the public resources on Centering and Grounding at The Academy to help you with this step if needed.

2. Cleanse Your Tools

Light the incense and pass each tool—the candle, incense, match, paper, and pen/pencil—through the smoke. Visualize the smoke carrying away negativity from the objects and dissipating in the air, preparing them for your intention.

3. Engage with the Candle

Write the name of the person or target of your spell on the candle, focusing on their energy as you do so. When you light the candle you are connecting with their inner fire or their life essence and bringing it into your intention.

4. Write Your Desire

On the piece of paper, write an affirmation in the present tense.

For example: "I am confident and successful in all my endeavors." This affirmation should reflect your desire as if it has already been realized. Meditate on it, visualizing your desire in vivid detail, and feel the emotions of success and fulfillment.

5. Fold the Paper

Depending on your intention:

To manifest toward your target: Fold the paper towards yourself while visualizing the manifestation, turning clockwise as you fold. Repeat this folding process three times.

To banish something from your target: Fold the paper away from yourself while visualizing the banishing, turning counterclockwise as you fold.

6. Manifest

Once the paper is folded, you can burn it safely on the flame to manifest your desired result, continue to visualize your goal.

7. Seal the Spell

Close the spell by saying words like "So mote it be" or "What's done is done, so it shall be" to seal your intention. Thank the Universe or The Earth for the materials used during the spell, dispose of the paper ashes by throwing them into the wind, allowing the winds of change to bring your manifestation.

Conclusion

This is a basic spell that can changed according to your need, but as you practice, you will strengthen your ability to manifest your desires.
